Minuet in G
Portland, Oregon
2026
Minuet in G is my attempt at making a “normal” vase, which of course means it still came out looking like it wandered off the trail a little. It’s the kind of piece where someone squints and goes, “Huh… I like it, but I don’t know why.”
The inspiration is the classic piano warm‑up. I’ve tried and failed to teach myself piano on three separate occasions, but this one little tune stuck. It’s the only thing my hands remember, so I hummed it while I made the piece. The rhythm ended up in the curves: a little rise, a little fall, nothing too fancy, just steady and familiar.
This vase is the pottery version of that warm‑up: simple, memorable, and stubbornly hanging on even though the rest of the lesson didn’t.
