The churchwarden is a classic: an elongated stem stretching back to the 18th and 19th centuries, once crafted from clay and favored in taverns. Its name comes from English parish officers, the long stem keeping smoke cool and the gesture dignified.
Here, the piece becomes more than utility. It is lineage, ritual, and bond. The marbled clay echoes age and endurance, each curve whispering of centuries past. The box transforms into reliquary, holding not just an object but a story of friendship, and the quiet wisdom of shared ritual.
Inspired by my oldest friend, humble to a fault, wise beyond his years, and bound to me in the kind of bickering that only old souls share, this piece exists as one half of a pair. He holds the other, completing the circle.
